Concept/Purpose of the Work:
With the Wind Vineyard and Winery is a small, rural vineyard located a few miles from Rosholt, South Dakota, an isolated, agriculture-based community operated by Jeremiah and Lisa Klein. Since opening their doors in 2012, they've received nationwide recognition for their dedication to the craft of winemaking. The owners not only grow their own grapes, but also bottle their wines on site for their storefront, as well as 61 stores, 235 wine club members from across the United States, and online shopping shipping to 38 states. Due to their tremendous growth, their need for professionally designed labels with a sense of backstory began. Through the metaphorical, and literal, grapevine, we crossed paths as Rosholt is my childhood home, and became partners in this endeavor.
Results of the Work:
Each label I create speaks to the flavor of the wines and the personalities Jeremiah and Lisa envision for their aesthetic and audience. The wines I've selected for this competition: Peachy Keen, Life of the Party, and Hidden Treasure, each are a sweet, white wine targeted at younger audiences than typical wineries to encourage the love for ethically-grown to go on into future generations.
Peachy Keen: Most everyone has experienced the love of a best friend, and the flavors of this strawberry-peach wine are represented as such. Designed to be enjoyed over pizza, on the couch, in the company of a bestie.
Life of the Party: A fan-favorite, revisited. First released in 2015, this sweet, red is the perfect way to say congrats — the party has arrived! Although we revised this label to appeal to a different audience, the label I'm submitting
How the Work Was Delivered to the Masses:
With the Wind is located in 61 stores, ships quarterly to 235 wine club members from across the United States, and online shopping shipping to 38 states. Their storefront is also open year round for tastings and off-sale. Here is a little insight on the breakdown of each wine:
Peachy Keen, the first label, was produced in April of 2021, at a whopping 13,000 units hitting the shelves of over 61 distributors nationwide; however, primarily based in South Dakota.
Life of the Party, a Syrah-based, red wine, came in at a close second with 6,500 bottles in June of 2021.
Lastly, Hidden Treasure, the most recent release, focused on appreciation of picturesque moments in nature, is still being produced; however, it is estimated to be close to 4,000 units when completed in mid-October.
