Concept/Purpose of the Work:
Prinspiration is the magazine of inspiring print design. Its purpose is to promote the Smartpress brand to creative professionals by presenting authentic content in our shared medium.
Smartpress owns the trademark for the branded term, ‘Printspiration.’ We identify Printspiration as an encompassing term used to categorize content that celebrates genuine Smartpress customer print design work.
Printspiration stories are curated by the Smartpress brand team from thousands of real Smartpress customer orders. After a print design is selected, studio photography is captured of the print piece, interviews are conducted with the designer to document their story, and the article is written.
We have been publishing Printspiration stories digitally since 2016. In 2019, we decided to extend the best of that content into Printspiration Magazine. Strategically, we plan to give away the magazine subscription in exchange for joining our email and direct mail marketing lists.
As a free premium artifact, we think that Printspiration can serve as a powerful supplemental customer acquisition vehicle, unique from our SEM, email, and other paid marketing channels. By nature, the magazine also serves as a physical sample of our print capabilities at Smartpress. And each article includes the Smartpress print specifications of the featured project.
Results of the Work:
Printspiration currently exists as a proof of concept. With company changes followed closely by the pandemic, this project was put on the backburner. The last edits were made to Printspiration at the end of 2019, and it was never completed... until now. By finishing the magazine and getting it in the public eye, our Creative team hopes that we can help reignite excitement for it internally and secure support for the publication of future issues.
How the Work Was Delivered to the Masses:
The magazine is intended to be a quarterly publication that will be distributed freely by mail to a list of subscribers acquired via Smartpress online channels. When we launch, we will offer free Printspiration Magazine subscriptions to our email list of 85,000 contacts, along with our social media audiences and public website traffic. In the future, we hope to partner with other leading design brands in the print industry, such as Abode, HP, and AIGA to further broaden the reach of Printspiration.
