MNSU Faculty Exhibition Poster
Submitter:
Bradley Coulter
Company:
Department of Typography
Concept/Purpose of the Work:
The poster served as the largest part of a public campaign to raise awareness and drive attendance of a Fall 2021 Art and Design Faculty exhibition at Minnesota State University, Mankato. This was the first in-person art and design exhibition on MNSU's campus since the start of the pandemic, and needed to strike a bold note in terms of typography, color, and image to compete with COVID-related visual clutter, and encourage curiosity to create engagement. This poster was displayed across the MNSU campus and the greater-Mankato area, and formed the design basis for social- and web-based promotion.
Results of the Work:
The poster not only helped raise awareness (and attendance) of the first non-virtual exhibition of art and design at the University since the beginning of the pandemic, it also helped in encouraging safe, socially-distanced engagement between the exhibiting artists and the local and campus community. All of the artist's featured had begun to explore new directions in their work over the course of the pandemic, and the opportunity for the campus and local community to engage in in-person conversations about art, design, and life was well received at the reception, one of the first in-person art and culture events on campus since the start of the pandemic.
How the Work Was Delivered to the Masses:
Posters were displayed across the Minnesota State University, Mankato campus and throughout the greater Mankato area. Social media posts derived from the poster design were also broadcast on Instagram and Facebook.
