Frankenstein: Jacket & Interior Redesign
Submitter:
Isabelle Snyder
Company:
University of Minnesota College of Design
Concept/Purpose of the Work:
Tasked with designing the book jacket and interior of a classic book for re-publication, I chose Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, written by English author Mary Shelley in 1818. Frankenstein is considered to be the first true science fiction story.
Results of the Work:
The book jacket highlights the integral element of electricity in the story, as a lightning strike is the catalyst for Victor Frankenstein's obsession with imbuing non-living matter with life. The lightning motif continues into the interior design. Additionally in the interior, the start of each chapter is a reference to the novel's introduction: a progressive sequence of snowy footsteps into the arctic abyss.
How the Work Was Delivered to the Masses:
The work was presented over Zoom to my Advanced Typography class.
