Concept/Purpose of the Work:
This illustration was created for the entryway of Trinity City Church (TCC), located in Saint Paul, MN. TCC wanted an illustration based off of Revelations 21:5 that reflects the goal and hope for which the church exists.
Revelations 21 depicts a city, and in this city there are 12 jewels that form the foundation of the walls. Therefore, 12 different plants form the illustration to represent the 12 jewels. Also, Revelations 22 depicts leaves of healing and 12 different kinds of fruit, and plants/greenery are a picture of life and flourishing throughout the entirety of the Bible. Thus, florals were chosen as the visual language for this illustration.
Finally, the front of the sanctuary in Trinity City Church has a golden pattern and cross on top of a dark background. This colouring is imitated in the design of the illustration to allow for continuity between the entryway and sanctuary.
Results of the Work:
Having been very recently installed, the illustration aims to provide beauty and serve as a habitual reminder for visitors of the promises that TCC believes in.
How the Work Was Delivered to the Masses:
The illustration was laser engraved onto a black wooden board at the size of 36"x43.2", and then the engravings were hand-painted gold. This was then installed in TCC's entryway.
